MTSHAYELI CLINIC AND PRESTIGE SAFARIS

A small rural clinic, under 10 kilometres from the Hwange National Park boundary, Mtshayeli Clinic was commissioned in 1988 as a council clinic. Under – resourced clinic in very rough area, where human wildlife conflict is common and where people are subsistence farmers, growing food to feed their families and rearing domestic livestock. Mtshayeli Clinic is very isolated, geographically and socially from larger centres and lacks support. 
 
Prestige Safaris are the only Mtshayeli Clinic sponsor so far; after Adam Atkin visiting in May 2026, Adam and his organisation felt a very strong call to support Mtshayelic Clinic and its nurses.
The very first donation from Prestige Safaris was to provide water to the clinic, fixing piping and replacing the invertor from the old solar pump. It sounds easy…but operating a clinic without water is incredibly difficult. The water well providing for the clinic is also supplying water to the entire community. A huge win for the area!
 
Mtshayeli is visited annually by Imvelo Safari Lodges’ mobile dental and eye care clinics, providing care to over 600 people in the area every year. Despite this, health care is very limited.
 
The Clinic’s priorities are to be able to better access medication for non-communicable diseases and for emergency treatments. Other priorities include beds and mattresses to treat longer-term patients, supplies to improve the Clinic’s nutrition garden (fence, hosepipe, poles), and installing burglar bars and keylocks on windows and doors.

The nurse in charge is Sister Silibaleng Makhurane and there is also an ⁠Environmental Health Technician, two other nurses, a nurse aide and a general hand.

Mtshayeli village has one primary and one secondary school, with Imvelo Safari Lodges supporting both and building classroom blocks, teacher rooms, toilets and showers at the Secondary school in the next few months. There are about 50 households, each with 6-12 people in each.
